Mobile app for delivery service: manage fleet and guarantee on-time delivery

Delivery services lose customers because of unpredictable delivery times and inability to track courier location. A mobile app for delivery gives drivers navigation and order management, and customers real-time tracking. S2 Digital creates systems that optimize routes, reduces and achieve customer satisfaction above 90%.

Challenges in the delivery business

Delivery is a race against time. Every minute of delay leads to lost customers and negative reviews. Today's customers know they can track Yandex.Market or SDEK packages, so they expect the same from you. Without tracking, it seems unreliable. Drivers manually transfer coordinates from paper lists, use multiple apps simultaneously, waste time calling customers, and don't know optimal routes. Dispatchers can't see in real-time where each courier is and whether they'll deliver on time.

  • No tracking system for customers - they can't see where the courier is
  • Suboptimal routes - drivers waste time on the road
  • Manual order management - paper, calls, address errors
  • No real information about delivery time
  • Inability to react to changes (cancellations, redirects)
  • Conflicts between customer and courier - no documentation

What we develop for delivery services

A delivery app consists of three components: driver mobile app (for order and navigation management), customer app (for package tracking) and dispatcher web panel (for real-time fleet management). Everything integrates into one system that optimizes routes, prevents delays and collects proof of delivery.

  • Driver app with GPS navigation and daily order list
  • Route optimization: app suggests optimal delivery sequence
  • Collection of signatures and photos at delivery - proof of completion
  • Real-time synchronization with delivery management system
  • Customer app with package tracking (where is the courier right now)
  • Customer notifications: accepted, in transit, arrived, delivered
  • Delivery rating from customer - feedback for driver and dispatcher
  • Dispatcher web panel: view all orders, redistribute between couriers
  • Performance reports for each driver: delivery time, volume, late deliveries
  • Integration with CRM, payment systems and other software

How delivery app development works

  1. Discovery and requirements (2-3 weeks): Interview dispatchers, drivers and customers. Study current process and systems used (CRM, payments, SMS). Determine service regions, orders per day, average delivery size.
  2. Architecture and design (2-3 weeks): Create scheme for driver and customer apps, dispatcher panel. Define how routing works, data sync, notifications.
  3. Backend and optimization development (5-7 weeks): APIs for order management, GPS tracking, routing. Integration with maps (Yandex Maps, Google Maps), payments, CRM. Route optimization algorithm development.
  4. Driver app (4-5 weeks): iOS/Android simultaneously. Shows daily orders, optimal route, navigation. Allows collecting signature/photos, updating order status.
  5. Customer app (3-4 weeks): Lightweight tracking app. Shows courier location, arrival time, allows rating. Notification integration.
  6. Dispatcher web panel (3-4 weeks): Web interface for order management, drivers, performance analysis. Manual order redistribution capability.
  7. Testing and launch (1-2 weeks): Load testing (concurrent order capacity). Pilot launch in one region. Dispatcher and driver training.

Data security and compliance requirements

In the delivery business, customer data security is critical: addresses, contact information, order details. S2 Digital's system uses data encryption in transit and at rest, protection from unauthorized access, and logging of all actions. Complies with FSTEC requirements, PCI DSS for payments. The system is developed with Russian data protection standards (data-protection law (GDPR), KKFER) in mind. All route, address, and contact information is protected by multi-layer security.

  • TLS encryption for all data in transit
  • Account protection with two-factor authentication
  • Logging of all actions for audit
  • Automatic deletion of outdated data
  • Compliance with Russian personal data protection requirements (data-protection law (GDPR))
  • Backup and disaster recovery
  • Regular security updates

Integration with logistics and CRM systems

The app syncs with your CRM or ERP system in real-time. When a new order arrives on your website, it automatically enters the delivery system and appears in the distribution list. Each customer's order history is visible to the dispatcher - this helps predict demand and plan deliveries optimally. The system can integrate with inventory systems to know when goods are ready for shipment.

Why delivery services choose S2 Digital

We understand delivery logic: every minute counts, routes must be optimal, data must be real-time. We don't build on third-party code - we develop from scratch for your specifics. System scales with you: works as well with 10 couriers as with 100.

S2 Digital system advantages:

  • Smart routing saves 15-20% of time and fuel
  • Full customer transparency - real-time tracking
  • Unified fleet management - see all couriers on map
  • Detailed analytics - identify top performers, inefficiencies
  • Integration with existing systems, not replacement

Route optimization examples

A delivery service received 50 orders across the city for one day. The dispatcher used to manually assign orders to drivers - taking 30 minutes and often suboptimal. S2 Digital's routing algorithm analyzes coordinates, package weights, delivery times and driver preferences, and suggests distribution in 2 minutes. Each driver sees their route, knows the delivery sequence, saves up to 40 km per day. Customers see their package arrives at 2:30pm, and the app updates in real-time if new orders are added.

Scaling your system as your business grows

S2 Digital's system is designed for growth. Starting with 10 couriers and hundreds of orders daily, it works without delays. As you expand (50 couriers, thousands of orders), the system automatically scales - no code rewrites needed. Adding new regions, new delivery types (standard, express, urgent) doesn't require architectural changes. This lets your business grow without technical limitations.

Estimated pricing

App for small delivery service (10-50 couriers, few thousand orders monthly): from $15,000 USD. For large service (100+ couriers, tens of thousands of orders): from $30,000 USD. Price includes all three components: driver, customer, dispatcher. After launch, we agree on support and development model.

FAQ

How does the routing system determine the optimal route?

The system analyzes coordinates of all orders, distances between them, package weights, acceptable delivery times, current geolocation of each driver and their historical speed. The algorithm finds the most efficient distribution, minimizing total time and distance. Dispatcher can manually override the route if needed.

How often is courier location updated on the map?

Every 5-10 seconds by default. Update frequency adjusts based on internet connection. If connection is lost, the driver app continues working offline and syncs when internet returns.

What if a driver wants to reject an order or redirect it?

Driver app has a 'Reject order' button. Dispatcher immediately sees the order is available in the panel and can redistribute it to another driver. System can automatically suggest the nearest available courier or re-optimize the entire route.

How does it integrate with our current CRM?

Depends on your system. For popular CRMs (Bitrix24, AmoCRM, Zoho, etc.) - we integrate via their API. For custom systems - we work with your documentation. We clarify all technical requirements during discovery.

Can the system prevent delays?

Partially yes. Route creation includes delivery time calculations accounting for traffic and buffers. If orders start piling up in current route, system alerts dispatcher that delays are possible and suggests route rebuilding. Customer gets updated arrival time in app.

What about driver performance data?

Admin panel collects statistics: average delivery time, orders per day, customer ratings, late deliveries. Helps dispatcher see who works efficiently, who needs training, who can take more orders. System optimizes, not punishes.

Does the app support motorcycle and on-foot delivery?

Yes, the system can be configured for any delivery type. For motorcycle couriers, routes are optimized for bike speed. For on-foot couriers, pedestrian routes are used. The system assigns delivery type based on distance and package weight.
